Radon Testing for Homes, Schools & Commercial Buildings
Radon is an odorless radioactive gas that seeps up from soil and bedrock — and the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. ABBN places calibrated detectors, returns certified lab results, and tells you plainly whether mitigation is warranted.

What radon testing involves
Testing means placing measurement devices in the lowest livable level of the building under closed-house conditions, then analyzing them at a certified laboratory. Short-term tests run two to seven days and are what real-estate transactions rely on; long-term tests run ninety days or more and better reflect year-round exposure. Results come back in picocuries per liter (pCi/L). The EPA action level is 4.0 pCi/L, and mitigation is worth considering between 2 and 4.
Signs you need radon testing
- Buying or selling a home — most contracts allow a radon contingency
- Finished basement or below-grade bedroom, office or playroom
- A neighboring property that tested above 4.0 pCi/L
- Never tested, or last tested more than two years ago
- New foundation cracks, a sump pit, or a recent basement renovation
- School, daycare or commercial building with occupied lower levels

How our radon testing works
- 1
Placement of calibrated detectors under closed-house conditions.
- 2
Timed retrieval — 48 hours to 7 days for short-term testing.
- 3
Certified laboratory analysis with a written pCi/L report.
- 4
Plain-language interpretation and mitigation guidance if levels warrant it.
Real-estate timelines and school testing
Radon contingencies are short, so we schedule placement fast and return lab results in days, not weeks — in a format attorneys and lenders accept without follow-up. For schools and institutional buildings we test room-by-room across occupied lower levels and provide a consolidated report suitable for board review.
